Headford Garden Design runs a variety of short courses for beginners and more experienced gardeners. Classes are run in the garden studio at Headford Gardens, nestling in the heart of the beautiful Quantock Hills in Somerset. We are just 15 minutes drive by car from Taunton and Bridgwater, and 2 hours by train from London.
We are constantly updating our program of learning – here is a taster of what is on offer in 2008:
Garden Design Modular Course (8 morning classes)
Learn new skills in the glorious surroundings of the garden and studio, and find out how good design
works in a real situation. Study the principles of effective garden design and draw up a long term plan for your own garden.
Students take away a portfolio of ideas and completed plans at the end of each module. We usually meet on Thursday mornings
for 4 weeks per module. Topics covered in Module 1 are garden assessment, scale drawings, garden planning, selecting the
right style, planning borders. In Module 2 students explore planting schemes in detail for a variety of garden styles.
Plus wildlife gardens, water features, structures and low maintenance techniques.
Courses start in April and September. Please contact us for information and registration. See Contact Us page.
Practical Gardening and Design Workshops
These half –day workshops run throughout the gardening year and cover skill areas such as pruning, planting
design and maintenance. Please contact us for an up-to-date schedule of events.
Tutorials
Past students have asked us to provide follow-on tuition so that they can continue learning while using
the gardens as an inspiration. We hold fortnightly group tutorials on a pay-as-you-go basis, starting September 2008.
’’I have really enjoyed the course and it has given me the inspiration I needed to revamp this garden. I have started digging the new larger borders and have bought some of the plants ready to go into their new homes after I have properly prepared the soil (of course). Thank you for all of your help. Regards Jenni’’
